Stackers, purpose, types and features

A stacker is a specialized device that is used to transport, lift, remove and install various types of cargo. Usually this vehicle is used on the territory of a warehouse, but it is allowed to operate on a construction site, in shops, etc. With this technique, you can stack palletized goods in stacks or set them on racks in several tiers, as well as remove them and transport them to a given place.

Stackers can significantly simplify the work of the warehouse. They reduce the burden on employees, speed up the process of loading or unloading cargo, help organize warehouse space and arrange goods more compactly. Understand the difference between a stacker and a forklift. The former are suitable for work in small warehouses, they have better maneuverability and controllability, while loaders are usually used in large premises.

Features of technology

The design of the stacker is quite simple and reliable. It consists of:

  1. The frame on which the end and support rollers are mounted.
  2. Steering and driven wheels.
  3. The pitchfork that moves along the mast.
  4. Protective screen.
  5. Pedals for lifting and lowering loads.

The device also has special handles that are responsible for movement, and a hydraulic cylinder with a pump on some models. The basis of the technique is a console with rollers installed on it, a mast and support frame with wheels.

Attention: these parts are made of durable metal with a reinforced profile or I-beam, which allows you to effectively use equipment for working with heavy loads.

Equipment types

Consider the main types of stackers. They can be divided into two types:

  1. Manual models. They are considered the most inexpensive and easiest to operate.
  2. Electric models. More advanced, suitable for medium-sized warehouses.

Let's consider them in more detail. Classic manual models are powered by a hydronic module. They are manually operated and move around the warehouse using muscular strength. They allow you to work effectively with loads weighing up to 2 tons, provide a lifting height of up to 3 meters. The average productivity of such equipment is up to 30 pallets per shift. Usually they are used in warehouses that are not equipped with electrics or where there is no need to transport a large amount of goods. If 10-20 pallets are transported per shift, then this can be done manually, without overpaying for more modern models.

Hand stackers are compact and highly maneuverable. You can work with them in narrow aisles, the width of which does not exceed 2 meters. Their advantages include low price, cheap maintenance, energy independence and ease of management. They can be used as main or auxiliary storage equipment. Of the minuses, only a low speed can be distinguished.

Electric models are more practical. They can be both classic and self-propelled. In the first, movement through the warehouse is carried out by muscular strength, and lifting is done by an electric motor. Self-propelled devices move around the territory and lift (lower) loads using engines. The carrying capacity of such devices reaches 3 tons, the lifting height is up to 6 meters. The use of an electric type stacker is possible only on a flat, solid surface. It may not overcome drops and thresholds of several centimeters.

The advantages of electric models include high productivity (up to 50-60 pallets per shift), low labor costs and good functionality. The technique is easy to master, you do not need to learn how to operate it. Of the minuses, we can single out worse handling compared to manual models and a higher cost.

Please note: electric lifts are suitable for medium and large warehouses in which the number of goods moved over 20 units per shift.  

 

How to choose the right model

The main purpose of stackers is to move, raise and lower loads. Therefore, in order to choose the technique that is suitable for your tasks, you need to consider:

  1. 1.What kind of goods you will have to work with (packaging, dimensions, weight).
  2. At what height will you need to raise them.
  3. What is the total amount of cargo transported per shift.
  4. The stacker must be the main or auxiliary equipment (backup).
  5. The quality of the floor covering and its durability.
