Tips for repairing hydraulic carts (rockers)
How to repair a hydraulic rocker
The hydraulic rocker is designed for moving heavy loads. The equipment is equipped with a manual drive. Most of all, the cart is in demand in warehouses, where it is used for loading and unloading operations and moving goods. Given the significant load, sooner or later, equipment fails. This causes delays in warehouse operations. To repair the rocker, it is necessary to find out the cause of the malfunction. Minor breakdowns can be eliminated on their own, while in more serious cases the help of a specialist will be required. The tips below will help you quickly restore your equipment to work.
Removing trapped air
Attention! Air in the hydraulic system is one of the most common causes of rocker breakage.
For the successful operation of the equipment, it is necessary to maintain an optimal level of pressure. Air ingress into the system does not allow the fork to rise, as a result of which the cart is not able to perform its functions.
In most cases, the hydraulic system is completely closed. But air can enter through damaged or worn parts (for example, a cracked valve cartridge). Therefore, it is recommended to bleed the air from the system before disassembling the trolley into components. The operation can be done by hand, without the involvement of specialists. For this, the method of inflating the handle is optimal. The procedure involves unloading the forks and then pumping out the handle at least 20 times. These actions help remove air from the system, which will be replaced by a special fluid during the process.
If this option proves ineffective, it will be necessary to disassemble the cart to replace certain parts of the equipment.
Replacing the O-ring
A similar problem is indicated by the accumulation of liquid in the area of the lower part of the handle. The reason for this malfunction is damage to the O-ring. In this case, the repair of the hydraulic carriage is reduced to replacing the faulty element.
Important! To order a new part, you must provide your industrial supplier with the cart model information. Without this, you cannot be sure of purchasing the right type of ring.
To complete the procedure yourself, you will need to perform the following steps:
-
lift the cart. To do this, you need to place a jack or other object under the axle, which will raise the front wheels and open access to the ring;
-
drain the hydraulic system. The drain screw is located near the rear wheel. You will need a hex wrench to pull it out. The liquid must be poured into a pre-prepared bucket. After completing the procedure, it is recommended to bleed the handle several times to completely clean the system. The last step is to install the drain screw in place, after which you need to tighten it well;
-
disconnect the lower arm. To do this, you need to find the pin located to the right of the body. A screwdriver is used to remove it from the lever. Then the pin is removed from the pump;
-
removing the ring. The end of the cartridge must be squeezed using tweezers or pliers. Then it remains to remove the damaged ring. It is recommended that you wipe the work area thoroughly to remove debris;
installation of a new O-ring and valve cartridge. It is best to use pliers to secure the elements properly.
After completing the procedure, it is necessary to pour the liquid back into the system. You also need to make sure that the equipment is in good working order, for which it is worth turning on the cart.
Wheelbase check
Wheels undergo serious loads during operation, as a result of which their structural elements wear out. Reliable sellers offer a wide range of spare parts for special equipment. You can get acquainted with the assortment.
Frame check
Fork carts are often subject to rough handling. During operation, the equipment can crash into walls when performing difficult maneuvers or when passing sharp turns. Another danger lies in setting aside too tight a space for storing the rockla. In addition, the reason for damage to special equipment is often work in a confined space, which leads to deformation of the body. In this case, the equipment cannot move upward.
If the problem is not related to the reasons listed above (damage to the O-ring or air ingress into the system), then it is advisable to inspect the frame for dents. As practice shows, mechanical damage can disrupt the normal operation of the hydraulic rocker.
